The Argentinean Sea is located on a vast continental shelf, rich in fishing resources, which can reach up to 550 km wide at latitude 52º south, with a total surface of approximately 1,890,000 km². Fishing is for Argentina an important source of income. It has 20 ports and more than 1,000 fishing vessels. In 2007 there were exports for US$ 1,104 millions. More than 50% of the exports go to Spain (32.2%), Italy (10.7%) and Brazil (10.5%). The Argentinean Fishing Industry participates in one of the highest percentages of the production derived to exports, reaching 90%.

Besides, it has an operation base for 318 fishing vessels of all kinds. Since 2001, it has had a constant growth and development in its container loading system. Today it transports more than 130,000 tons and more than 5,000 containers average annually. Currently, it offers general loading services and is strongly connected to the international markets, with China, USA, EU and Mercosur among its main destinations. Its relevant roll in the fishing industry is not the only feature for which it is well renowned. The city of Mar del Plata offers an important hotel infrastructure, as wide as varied. In the port as well as in the city there are a diversity of cultural and tourist activities, which make Mar del Plata one of the most popular summer destinations.
